Vacations and trips can be fun but extremely busy. So busy, in fact, that people forget to clean and care for their smiles. If this is the case for you, Dr. Michael Lemme and our dental team strongly encourage you to change your ways and keep your teeth and gums in mind while you’re traveling. To help you keep your smile in tip-top shape while you’re away from home, we have some beneficial tips for you.

First, brush your teeth for at least two minutes every morning and every night. As you do so, use a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste that have been approved by the American Dental Association. This will help you eliminate the harmful bacteria from the surfaces of your teeth.

Second, floss your smile at least once a day. As you floss, scrape the sides of each tooth and remove the plaque that lives there. Be gentle along the gumline as you clean the cracks between your teeth. You can use a flossing product of your choice to clean your smile.

Third, pack travel-sized oral hygiene tools with you. The smaller the brush, the better because it will only take a little bit of room in your suitcase. It’s also recommended to pack a toothbrush cover so you can keep the bristles away from germs and bacteria. When it comes to toothpaste, only pack paste that weighs about or less than 3.4 ounces. This is recommended because there is a weight limit for liquids boarding an aircraft. If you aren’t flying, you can pack a normal tube if you desire.
